CHARACTER MAP

For this assigment I will analize the taxi driver.

The Mask: The mask of this character is that he is a taxi driver, also a foreign that does not know how to do his job and he is kind of lost.

Fears: The fear of this character is to lose his job and had make a trip so and not been that fructiferous.

Strong Traits: He is a dreamer and a good listener, he is also a very kind and polite person.

Admire Traits: He admires the passenger and his driving skills, also he wants to be able to interact with other people easily.

Trouble Traits: He is a disoriented person, he ca not speak english, and he does not even how to drive.

Dark Side: He does not like people who make fun of him, also doesn´t like not been taken into account, and people how does not give him a chance.

Trip

I would like to go to the old mexican toys museum (MUJAM) is in the city and has a temporary exposition of different toys through aut the mexican story has more than 2000 pizeces. I think it would be intristing to compare thous toys to the ones we use.

ROMEO AND JULIET

The nurse

There is no tragedy most know or read than Romeo and Juliet for William Shakespeare. And since it is most famous it is just natural that it has been adapted to the cinema in different occasions. One of these movies is Romeo + Juliet witch I found most intriguing. My favorite character on the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is of course the nice and always helpful nurse. Since I read the story I found the nurse a most amusing character due to each and every action she made, but the nurse we found on the  movie is just beyond whatever I had imagine about the character.

On the movie the nurse is represented as a very important person for one of the protagonist of the original play because even though she is just a nurse, she acts like Juliet´s best friend. As a matter of fact I dare say she is indeed Juliet´s best friend and as any good friend she is there to support Juliet´s decision. For she is also her confident and companion, the nurse is essential to the girl she has taken care of since infancy. On the movie, one of the few persons who knows about the love between Romeo and Juliet is the cherish woman just because Juliet tell her the whole thing.

Miriam Margolyes represents a nurse how is just funny. With her way of expressing and the fact that the language is old and setting of the movie is new a days, the contradiction reaffirms the humorous personality of the character because the language does not corresponds to the movie. Also the nurse we see on the movie is always fooling around with Juliet and likes to tease her just as a little girl would do.  For example when nurse comes back from seeing Romeo, she does not give away the information Juliet wants right away, she goes around and around the bush until Juliet gives her a massage.

The movie follows Shakespeare´s tragedy on all the structure and flow of events so the actions of the nurse are just the same, but the way nurse does them on the film is what gives it an interesting twist to the story. For example, when she meets Romeo on the beach, instead of doing it discretely she goes around with a red dress, a big umbrella and sun glasses as if she was an a parade. Also the person how makes the personification of the nurse (Miriam Margolys) on the screen, is a very good actress because her facial expressions are just admirable. All this facts makes the nurse actions very interesting because she really shows the emotion she is suppose too without any doubt.

I like nurse on the story because of her supportable personality, but on the movie I just love her for everything she represented and how she represented it. Personally, I did not love the film in his totality I thought it was very weird, nevertheless nurse I found it interesting and entertaining. The personification of nurse is just unique witch makes the normal nurse (as any other) we see on the story transformed on this funny person who just catch up your attention right away.  This is why my favorite character of Romeo and Juliet on the film is the good nurse.  

THE WIZARD OF OZ

As good as a book

Many movies are based on books previously written and there are many contradictions weather which one is better, a book or a movie. Sometimes the book can be great but the movie is as bad as it can be, or the other way around, the book is totally boring nevertheless the movie is just astonishing good. Neither of this is the particular case of Pride and Prejudice, whose movie and book are just the best it can be. The movie has a great story, the book adaptation is very good and the scenery reflects in his totality the time in which the story takes place.

First of all, Pride and Prejudice is a great movie because it has a spectacular story. The reader or the viewer is entertained and interest on the events’ sequence thought out the story, from beginning to ending. At the start of it, a family is introduced and each character is described, then an event changes their routine and as the story goes by the characters reveal a different part of themselves.  Each and every one of the characters are different, this makes the story interesting because it shows how people, who are totally different, each with his or her on personality, character, ideas and dreams, can interact with each other and create an equilibrium. Also the entertainment comes from the fact that the characters are involved in a considerable amount of conflicts in which they have a decision to make. The decisions are always entertaining because the observer usually thinks what had he made if he were on the same situation. A good story always tries to show or recreate human aspects or events so the spectator feels identified with the characters.

Secondly, if you like to read and had read this book you have to agree that this is a very good adaptation. Every movie whose capable to equal the book in greatness is an excellent movie and most be seen. There is a very good adaptation because the events described on the book are presented just the way the book narrates. The sequence and importance of the situations are kept on the movie, and almost all the events narrated on the book are shown on the film. It is also a good adaptation because it sticks to the book structure and does not changes the order of the events. The essence of the book can be visualized on the screen.

Third of all, this film is one of the greatest ones because it represents the time in which the movie takes place. All the scenery of the movie, each of the sets, was chosen to reflect the views of that time. The places were the movie takes place is as adequate and beautiful as any other. Also all the clothing, hair style and makeup are perfectly suitable for the eighteen centuries and the richness of work of each of this construct an art work. This movie had been thought to detail since the beginning and is totally true that this is one of the best movies not only because it is taken from the most famous book from Jane Austen, but because it speaks for himself. There is no doubt that the film was made for impressing all the audience and to be loved not only for the viewers but also for the readers. This great movie is an excellent example of how films can be as good as a book and that the readers most not be always disappointed whenever they watch a movie based on a book.

Little Angel

This last year was full of surprises, tragedies, happy and not so happy moments. But there was a big lesson I learned that I want to share with you.  I have a big family, with aunts and uncles in different countries. As any other family, even though we are apart from each other, we try to keep contact and call each other frequently.

I remember that it all started about six months ago. One afternoon I was watching TV with my dad when suddenly the phone started to ring. I picked it up as always and heard my uncle Andres´ voice. He lives with his family on the USA and so I talk a little with him. I asked how he has been, for the family and if everything was good; he say yes but there was something in his voice that make me doubt. He asked for his brother so I give the phone to my dad who was just thrill to hear from him.

After a while, as they talk, I saw my dad´s smile vanish and immediately knew that something was wrong, with not even a  warning my father’s eyes suddenly fill up with tears that he could not held back. By that time my two sisters and my mother were aware of the conversation and we all just could not wait. We wanted to know what was happening.

At last my dad hung up and told us what was going on. My uncle was calling to let us know about a difficult situation that was taking place. One of my three cousins was very sick on the hospital; he had a rare type of anemia and it was killing him. The only hope left was to find a bone marrow donor, make a transplant and pray for it to work. I couldn´t believe my ears. How can this happen to a twelve year old?

We were all very nervous the following days, my uncle told us the doctors will run some tests on my other cousins to see if they were compatible with his or her brother. As for us, they had told us that uncles and cousins could also be compatible in some amount so we started to make tests to see witch of us could be a possible donor.  After a week my uncle let us know that the tests were over and that my little cousin, a beautiful four year old girl was compatible. The doctors were just shocked about the fact that there were 100% compatibles; they had the exact DNA the kind of situation that is seen only on twins.

To make sure that everything went right with the transplant, my little cousin Valeria which will be the donor, had to run even more tests, donate blood, have a special diet and a strict routine for a while. The doctors pinch her over and over again, she gave blood almost every day and she could not do the things she liked like play, dance or been with other people. This little angel didn’t complain, not even once. Many times she just wanted to cry because she couldn’t understand why the doctors were so mean, but she did know that if she did this, his brother will be all right; he will leave the hospital and return home. ­­Valeria told the doctors that she will do whatever it toked to save his brother, that they could have all her blood if necessary.

After all, the transplant was made and the treatment is working very well. My cousin is getting better every day, still he will be on the hospital for another couple of months but he is strong and very gratefully. His little sister showed a love that is beyond everything and an immense bravery.

This little girl attitude towards her brother make me think of my own sisters. How many times a day do I fight with them for the stupidest things? How many times had I preferred talking to my friends rather than to my sisters? This and many other questions came to my mind and after a while I realized that it doesn’t matter how much your friend loves you, only your brother or sister will give their lives for you. At the end of the day, who will stick to you no matter how awful the situation is, is your family and a love like that will not be ever found nether compered.
